How to install Android on Windows Phone! | Nokia Lumia 520/1/5/6, 620 & 720 | Android4Lumia Official
hello it's Sam and welcome to another tutorial video in today's video I will be showing you how to install Android on your Windows Phone alright so I know some of you've been waiting for this video for a while and whatnot but it's finally here the tutorial on how to install Android on select Lumia model Windows Phones so to start off the phones that are supported on Lumia 520 521 525 and 526 for the 520 family before the other half of the 520 family we are including the Lumia 720 that has just newly been added as supported by our project so these are the devices that can be installed for this video specifically so many of you have seen this XD a thread rolling around on I am part of this project I officially am a member I do all the work on some of the back end and all that and so this is what I do and today I will be showing you the official guide on how to install this ROM and Android on your Nokia Lumia devices specifically the 520 family like I mentioned earlier and these 724 now are only supported so alright let's get into it so right here I have my Lumia my 520 so if you follow this tutorial everything I do for the 520 is universal for the 520 series devices like I said earlier and the 720 so let's go ahead and get started you're going to want to have your phone plugged in to start with so as you can see just plugging my phone and perfect windows should pop up that I have plugged in a Windows Phone is what we want to see here there you go have additional setup Windows Phone perfect so you're going to want to install all of the drivers now because you're going to need all of them alright so the first link that you'll find in the description is the one to this thread and for the YouTube tutorial go to this onedrive link you're going to want to click it it will bring you to a folder I have created with all the files that you will need for this project and so here you are you have your elf the bootloader for the phone you're going to need the list of programs you're going to need to install random info in case you may need it or you want to find it roms were to download them the files needed for Windows Phone internals the program to unlock the bootloader and a working folder to put all of your working files in so you're going to want to go ahead and download this may take a minute or two and then as soon as you download it go ahead and extract it and put it somewhere safe like on the desktop that's what I've done I put it on the desktop extracted so you can see everything so let's go into programs needed here's what you're going to need you're going to need Windows Phone internals so go ahead and download and install that along with Windows Device recovery tool install that everything needs to be accepted when you do so win32diskimager go ahead and install that and the most complicated thing for most people to install is ADB and fastboot which you need for the flasher tool to install the bootloader and your recovery on your Windows Phone so you're going to want to go ahead and click that link and open it and here is where you can get it you're going to need to go ahead and push yes to everything when you install which I will show you in a minute go ahead and click the Google Drive link to go and download it download that so to install this program you're going to go ahead and go to your downloads folder you're going to find a TV set up one point 4.3 what you want the latest version of this go ahead and push yes you're going to need admin privileges to install this program alright so do you want to install why is for yes n is for no system-wide yes there you go install device drivers yes and then we'll bring you this little setup wizard window which it will install your drivers depending on how fast your computer is I'm not using in really super fast hardware so it may take some time and it's already done so that part is complete you're going to need that later for the installers it alright so let's go ahead and install this to get rid of all these files it'll wait let's Android for lumia folder that you have extracted to wherever location I recommend the desktop because that is the easiest the first thing you're going to need is you're going to fill up the LK bootloader is what we're going to install first so installation and updating is what you're going to want to look at and so you must unlock the bootloader first and so what I recommend you do right now is on your windows phone go ahead and go into settings and back up your phone using the backup tool wherever it is in here or save stuff to your SD card like right there is your backup folder back that up to somewhere safe and secure all your files because you will be erasing your phone so after you do that and before you install the bootloader you're going to want to go ahead and open Windows Device recovery tool the one I told you we do install second and so that will start and load up and here it will check for a device updates so your phone will be detected Lumia 720 520 521 etc so you want to go ahead and push this and you're going to want it to read your device make sure your device is open no pass codes any of that I'm sure it'll work fine without it but what we're going to want to do is install clean firmware so that we have no air as possible when the bootloader is flashing so we'll just go ahead and say reinstall software it says I have the latest software version available but reinstall it anyway and it's going to want you to download like I said settings and you can backup your phone if you have important data on there so you're going to want to do that but go ahead and push continue on just continue without submitting and it's going to start downloading the package and so it's about 1.5 gigs 1.7 depending on which phone you have and features and all that so it's going to go ahead and download this at the fastest speed it possibly can alright so as you can see right now we are almost done downloading the software the phone is unaffected it is still plugged into the computer is what you want it will verify the downloads now and so while I was gone I just waited for it to download so you didn't have to watch all of that so it's going to go ahead and verify your download and then your phone will say please wait switching the device to flash mode so that'll take one second and basically during the Installer it says your device restarts and the screen goes blank you can ignore all windows notifications about USB cable connection so you're going to be fine you don't have to worry about this and the phone will restart in the flash mode like you can see right now and it's going to go ahead and flash this brand new firmware right over so that we have no way of making an error when we go ahead to install over a updated version via like over-the-air updates on your phone because that can mess up the install process so you just want to do a clean slate when you go ahead and do this which is probably the best way to do it so I'm going to let it install it will probably take up to five minutes so I'm going to go ahead and skip that for you guys and get back right when it is completed all right so right now you can see the device is almost done installing software and that on the camera that's pointed out the phone the bar is almost complete and so when this finishes installing you're going to want to sign into Windows and do a cool or a cold boot as what they call it so basically that's set up your phone to the point where you're not signed into a Microsoft account or whatever you're just getting to the home screen and letting the phone do its thing so there you go it has a restarted operation successfully completed so you're going to just push finish and you can go ahead and close Windows Device recovery tool for now so if we switch over to the phone the phone is booting mine happens to be an ATT branded phone so in this case it is just showing the AT&T logo alright so booting into there it is Nokia and it'll take a minute so what you're going to want to do is follow what I'm about to do right now on how I just do the cold boot so we can just go ahead and unlock it and install Android so the phone is still booting it's been a minute or so and taking it sweet time but remember this is so we avoid any airs later in the project so it is doing whatever it's doing I'm still leaving it connected because we want power in it to be charged for when we go over to the flashing so the computer just recognized it it's on so the United States next just close next you're just going to want to fly through everything as fast as possible skip Wi-Fi networks just next it doesn't matter what you do just recommended settings but we don't need to take our time on this we can just fly through about as fast as we want because we don't need anything on the phone before we install Android on it since we'll be backing it up anyway so just sign in later and just wait for the apps to install so I'll come back when the apps are installed alright so the phone has finished installing the apps we're going to go ahead and push next all done done BAM we are at the home screen perfect this is exactly where we need to go so just let it sit for now keep it plugged in and we're going to go ahead and go to Windows Phone internals so you're going to go ahead and open up your Android for Lumia folder go back to your downloads folder and Windows Phone internals comes in a zip package you're going to want to push extract all and extract it in there I've already done so open that folder double-click Windows Phone eternals and it's going to want to run as administrator' check yes you want that so BAM it's open disclaimer if you break your phone or something it is not their fault it's a proof of concept bla bla bla bla bla you're going to want to continue because I mean that's why you're here so go ahead and you'll get all your info from your phone and this is my product code I have a USA I have a normal phone and we're going to want to switch to flash mode to get more info because this will tell us which phone you have and if it is safe to install this because Samsung memory chips or EMM see inside of your phones can cause a brick so if you break your phone basically will not read and write you have to get the chips taken off or something at a mobile shop and so that is not very fun so the phone will reboot flash mode like it does right now so you'll get this big Nokia logo on top and it says I have flash in hynek's memory so perfect if it says samsung here this you should stop right now unless you really want to risk installing it it as it may break your phone so if you have anything but Samsung you should be a hundred percent okay to go and so then you just got all your info here if it's all good so you're going to want to push unlock bootloader so you get your root hash key up top you're going to select your ffu image and if you remember Windows Device recovery tool did download our firmware so you'll just go to select your device or cut recovery tool you go to this PC go to local disk program data Microsoft scroll down until you see the word packages there it is double click products this is your phone your RM code the model number and so you'll double click that you'll go in and it's called ffu file it's generally the biggest file in there so push open then you'll go to select folder with the Lumia emergency flasher tools so wherever you saved yet that Android for Lumia folder that you extracted you're going to go to your Android for Lumia folder go to folder with your flashers and then it's called weepy internals needed for unlocking and select that emergency underscore loaders folder or select there you go and then SB l3 you're going to need one of these so you'll go back to that Windows Phone internals needed for locking folder under that Android for Lumia folder you extracted earlier click the 520 bin this one works for the 520 521 525 and 526 along with the Lumia 720 because they all share the same chip so you're going to want to select this one push open and you're good now you're going to want to push continue it will process the resources it'll load them up and you should see some action occurring on your phone shortly but it'll switch to emergency download mode it'll send the loader it will start flashing you're unlocked bootloader is and this is what you want and so it'll make its progress it'll usually take around a minute so it's not too long but in this time do not disconnect your phone do not unplug your phone do not like touch your phone just leave it still because you do not want to mess up this process if you do there could be a very sad day for you because your phone may not work after that there have been cases of recovering it but there is no guarantee so about 10 seconds or so left after this it's going to reboot back into Windows Phone if you get the smiley frown I call it smiley frown but um it's just a frown face with the colon and a parenthesis to get that you're going to want to boot your phone into a flash mode and go through Windows Device recovery tool again and restore it to eliminate that that is why reflash the phone before this with the stock firmware so it'll start booting up right away on you get back to your carrier logo if you have one if you don't you go straight to the Nokia logo like there and I basically you can wait for Windows Phone internals to finish that all we need to do is close it because we are not going to need Windows Phone internals any more so all we got to do is wait for the phone to boot like it's done now past that stage back in the Windows Phone and it says bootloader successfully unlocked now disable automatic updates on your phone that doesn't matter because I'm not connected to Wi-Fi right now if you need any more of your own identity scroll down for like your IMEI click the button but we don't need that so go ahead and close it we're done with that and now we can go to the Android for Lumia folder random info is if you need the firmware separately you can go ahead and download there but we want the bootloader so open the instructions so right now your phone already is unlock so you're going to want to open win32 disk imager and connect your phone in mass storage mode so basically you're going to want to do is power it down and wait for it unplug it right now and then wait for it to shut down it'll say goodbye and that's the shutdown process and now you're going to want to wait a few seconds hold your camera key and plug it in and wait a couple seconds it should flash the nokia logo for a few seconds or if not then it's your carrier logo then you can go ahead and let go see now the computer has detected a drive it's called main OS if there's a key that comes up in size format like a window do not push that if you format your phone your phone is screwed so it's in D load mode but if you go into the Explorer you can go ahead and see that there is this main OS folder with everything on your phone so just push exit and now we're going to want to open Windows 32 disk imager because this is how we're going to backup your phone so it'll select your device right my drive is D because that's the one that's plugged into the phone go ahead and select a location you want to save this to I tend to save this on the desktop that's usually not a good place but you can save it either as a disk image or a and just a dot file on it's all this is a raw backup of your phone so it doesn't matter when you go to restore it so from there we'll just push ok the phone is still blank which is fine we'll push open I'm saving it as a disk image but I think you need to name it again so let me have five twenty first alright that's fine let's push open and you will push read so now it'll tell you it's approximately going to take about ten or so minutes to back up your phone depending on how fast your computer is but this is the only way you can save your phone in case something goes wrong so if you do not backup we will not help you on the forms this is a major key if you ever want to go back to Windows Phone so make sure you backup spend that 10 minutes time to restore your phone later in the future by backing up now and spending that 10 minutes now because if you don't you'll just have a dead phone laying around if the process were to go wrong at any point so we'll just let this sit for now and let it back up and I'll come back when it is almost done all right so now is a good time well we're about to finish up the backup to explain all the features that work and do not work so here we do not have any SIM Wi-Fi doesn't work bluetooth doesn't work on the 520 devices but on 720 we have working bluetooth Wi-Fi and everything else basically does not work only official digitizer is supported for now because there's so many different like remade touch screens that we cannot support all of them possibly at the moment for some people SD cards that work but they've been working for me so I think that's been fixed by us so you can install this on 720 so backup is almost done wait for one minute but in that meantime if you ever want to restore the Windows Phone this link will also be in the description I'm not going to make a video for it because and if you really want to restore you will follow the instructions to do so and they're pretty clear so I don't think there's a need for a video for that so if you ever want to do that just follow those but for now our backup has basically finished just a few more seconds and depending on how you want to do this you can reboot the phone in two different ways so we're 100% backed up and now just check it before you reboot your phone so we have seven point two two gigabytes that's what I saw in Windows Phone internals so we are good so now you can basically unplug the or in my case I like to hold volume down in power to reboot it so hold those for about 15 seconds the phone will then vibrate and reboot or you can choose the option to pull out your battery if this doesn't work for you so now the phone is going to reboot and we're going to want it to reboot obviously to our Windows Phone and we should be good to go so in my case right now it's good phone just vibrated restarting perfect so now I'm just going to open up my android for Lumia folder and get started go ahead and plug in your phone again and let's go to the elkay bootloader so this is the flasher tool so if you have a 32-bit computer use x86 folder only or if you have a 64-bit computers use a 64-bit one only and so I have 64-bit so I'm going to go ahead and extract it just push extract basically export everything to a folder right there that opens here so this is UEFI to LK this works for 720 but I'll explain what you have to do with the 720 after we do this so you're going to go ahead and just double-click the flash tool it will remind you if you didn't take a backup take a backup if you're really sure you backed it up yes I am I did if something goes wrong don't blame me totally fine don't blame me either that is your fault if you did not back up and go and then it says go ahead and turn off your phone and disconnect every other Android or Windows based device and then so what we'll do is we'll go ahead and power off the phone so and then unplug it we will remove and reinsert the battery in my case my battery is kind of messed up so I've had to put some cardboard underneath it because the pins won't touch for whatever reason so we'll remove that wait a few seconds and put it back in if you do not have the phone with a removable battery I think you can just force restart it should be good for that reason and then connected to the PC after pressing enter so we're going to go ahead and press ENTER and plug in the phone there you go phone is plugged in and it's booting you can see now now on the computer we are getting all the flashing stuff flashed green perfect ended with success waiting for device and now this is picking up the ADB and fastboot tools because it has now moved is the LK fastboot bootloader so perfect so we'll just wait for the device and I've already inserted an SD card for Torf our recovery and so now it's a device Android has completed setup perfect so it's just waiting for device it's already flashed boot.img just for the recovery so it's waiting again it's going to send another system part and now it's going to go ahead and write all of the partition data in order which is what we want because we can't keep all of the Windows Phone partitions and so we're going to need the specific Android partitions we have created in order to install Android so it's going ahead and writing everything out and perfect so it's finished so the phone should technically Bree boot right now if not you can hold power down or no power and volume down and so I'm just going to wait and see if it does it on because most people will but you can always go back into the installation and instructions so there we go phone is in warp if you can see that is perfectly in TWRP recovery so you're going to do slight swipe to allow modification and right now is generally if you want to sideload the rom you can go ahead and do mount and then for me I have an SD card in there and you can just push select storage SD card it usually doesn't register but takes a couple of tries if not you just reboot but you and do a DB side load to go to advance and then side load and you can use like a DB side load and then drag the file of the OS is it file to the terminal and after you've typed a DB side load and you can send it to the phone and the phone will install but this is the way I do it so I'll just go to wipe we'll go to advanced wipe wipe all the partitions just to be safe and your user get thrown a couple of airs if not perfect in my case no if you do get errors just change the file system bar however just to fix those up go to install and in my case my external sd card is not showing up so what will do is will reboot and we'll reboot recovery because you won't recovery to reboot and occasionally your SD card may not register for whatever reasons but if you want to download the rom follow me onto the computer right here and you'll just go to google chrome you go to the thread go to downloads and for those of you that booted on a 7:20 unlocked it you're going to need the recovery zip so go ahead and download that along with the OS and for fame fame is the 520 521 525 and 526 devices zeal is 720 and 720 T that T variant being the Chinese variant of the phone so going to go ahead and download that you can also download to work if you feel like reflashing it but just you can download on the zip and move it to an SD card take out the battery of the phone put the SD card in and install so in my case it says external sd it will still not register it so you can either try and mounting the card which it doesn't want to register my card right now it's fine so we'll do it the regular way we will a TB sideload go in here then you're going to open CMD there you go command prompt and in the background we'll just go ahead and download this file and have it saved so we're ready to flash and there you go it's downloading super fast and we'll go a DB side load and now you'll want to open your file explorer pick any version or whatever I just went here go to your downloads folder lino Joe s zip drag that over let go it'll paste it and then just push enter and we'll start loading the file on your device if your SD card doesn't work and it may take a while depending on your computer or how the phone is reading it so they'll give you a little progress bar zero one percent two percent and so on so I'll come back when it is completely done with moving over this date all right so you can see the phone has run some stuff on it if the screen ever dins just push the power button or touch it it is installing it will say 46 percent over here for now but it is still running and just patching the image on the phone and if you ever want to update in the future just go to the same rom page go to the download section and we'll post a new build every so often so BAM you look at the phone it's done if you look at the side load command total transfer is done in my case it popped up as famed LTE because it's kind of like a world variant kind of deal so you'll just go ahead and push reboot system swipe to continue and it's going to go ahead and reboot and that's what you want you can go ahead and close this terminal by the way you do not need a command line or command prompt open so in the case of 720 while we wait for this to boot you're going to plug it in it'll be booted into twerp and you need to sideload this image immediately so it installs it and then reboot or go back to the home menu and push the reboot icon and then course recovery so to reboot into recovery and then you're allowed to flash this is if because the flasher installs all the stuff for 520 which is the hardware between 520 and 720 is the same but you just need the name change so the system recognizes that it needs this Zee zip that I'm pointing out with the mouse so that's what you're going to need on and so the phone will reboot the line of joe s logo is there right now you can see that under the other camera but I will show you guys a little preview uses the Lumia 720 and I have working Wi-Fi I can access the internet and so this phone is way better in terms of support right now but I would just like to say that I do not recommend using any of these phones as a daily driver it's a fun experiment but we still have a lot of fix fix this to do like camera and all that and so you're going to want to stay tuned for all of this because we are actively working on it and like I said the download section will feature all the latest zips we have released and if we ever do update anything you can go to the last page generally and you can see progress that we've written or if we announce something so like I said I was filming me a tutorial tell how to install for 720 so I was recommendation was filming it or you get questions like I can't use ADB how do I fix this err we generally are pretty good about answering everything but if it's a stupid question like I didn't back up my phone can you restore my phone we're not going to help you because hey you didn't listen to the original instructions and B you just you're being rude about it in the forum so we're not going to answer you for that kind of thing but we do plan on supporting as many devices as we possibly can if you don't support yours right now then maybe in the future but if you're talking like Lumia 900 Lumia 950 or 640 those are unsupported because the bootloader cannot be unlocked and we need to switch a bootloader out with something that can boot Android so those are not currently possible right now so devices that feature the X 2x series or two like 9 20 or 1520 anything that like ends in like a 20 is unlockable and could potentially be supported by this project so we do take donation – or PayPal to invest in more phones and try and support them if we can and so that is always the goal if you do want to donate people rinoa is our main guy you can donate to him via that donate button all of us have PayPal you can also push donate to me and Matt chuan says the guy who fixed Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on 720 I'm you can donate to him as well and we're going to try and work as fast as we possibly can to keep this alive and keep it running so if you do want to support go ahead and support it alright so while the phone is booting I'll just show you a working one you'll have to go through setup and all that the phone usually takes about 15 minutes to boot because it's optimizing everything so this is the Lumia 521 right here and as you can see it's pretty quick with the UI and like like I said things don't work like Wi-Fi Bluetooth camera some sound stuff we are working on it but you can always take that guide back to Windows Phone the recovery guide if you have a backup so this is what it's like all the switches look like they can be turned on but they can't mobile data doesn't work sim but you can load games via an SD card and play with it and it actually doesn't perform super bad it's pretty good but this is what it would look like when you're done and you've gotten through setup and everything so that's for that device and then the 720 like set has Wi-Fi you could probably flash gaps but as our team hasn't really had success with it we don't recommend it for now but only a few things like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth work compared to other devices so when its booting you'll see this screen right here it's preparing all the apps and it will start just go through setup when it gets to the Wi-Fi part just push skip really fast so it doesn't crash because we're having an issue with that and occasionally the phone will reboot maybe every 10 or so minutes it's not a big deal but we're working on why it's usually caused by Wi-Fi and so we've been working on by lately so that's about that but if you did like this tutorial and you would like to see more comment down below if you have any questions I'll do my best to answer them if you really did enjoy this tutorial do give it a thumbs up and share it out to other people this was basically a foolproof guide on how to install Android on your specific Lumia devices and like I said we're looking to support more devices in the future but for now these are the devices you can officially install on and if you want to see more tutorials let me know down below and I can start filming more I will catch you guys in the next video
