The Huawei Mate 50 will disappoint some users

Huawei may still be one of the most relevant smartphone players in the market. It steals the headlines very often with its launches, but we don’t know if it will be able to keep the relevancy at this pace. According to recent reports, the company is finally ready to deploy the Huawei Mate 50 series. But after several months of anticipation, the device may end up being a disappointment for those who have been waiting for something ready for the 2022 premium segment. Apparently, the phone will keep the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC from last year, and it will also be limited to 4G networks.
The phone will disappoint users expecting anything above the Snapdragon 888 SoC. But the rumors say that the Kirin 9000S is coming with the Huawei Mate 50 Pro. Given Huawei’s probably limited stock of this yet-to-go official chipset, the company will keep the SD888 on the Huawei Mate 50. The 4G limitation does not come as a big surprise. After all, the company is still trying to find an alternative for 5G on its smartphones after the US ban.

A new report comes from the user TechPreacher who posted a specs sheet on Weibo. Apparently, the phone will come with an OLED screen from BOE with Full HD+ resolution. The display is “compact” given current standards at 6.38-inch. The Huawei Mate 50 will have up to a 120 Hz refresh rate. It’s unclear whether the panel supports a dynamic refresh rate or not. Interestingly, the phone will have a triple 50 MP camera on the back. The exact configuration of each sensor remains unknown, but it does not bring the Leica branding this time around. However, the phone may come with Huawei’s new X Mage photo division,
Besides the Snapdragon 888 4G, the Huawei Mate 50 may come with 8 GB of RAM with 128 GB or 256 GB of Internal Storage. It will run the latest Harmony OS 3 straight out of the box. For now, the launch date is unclear, but given the leaks, we assume it will happen soon. The device already got the necessary 3C certification, teasing an imminent launch in China.
